The History & Controversy of Dieting
16/01/09
Throughout the ages, many millions of people have tried different dieting techniques in order to determine which one “truly” works the best. There have been many disappointments, a few celebrations, half as many breakthroughs, and a stunning amount of controversy and publicity. At one point, it seemed as if everyone was trying to find the perfect dieting solution - the one which had the least intrusion on daily life, but which lost you the most pounds at the same time. Given this rocky and windy historical road, let’s take a look back at one particular diet that succeeded in capturing the hearts of the nation - only to be dismissed as dangerous shortly after by the medical experts.
This diet surely needs no introduction. The Atkins Diet became popular with middle aged men and women, and got a name as being one of the best diets of the day. That was, of course, until doctors and medical professionals slammed the techniques being taught by the dieting system - and began promoting it as a particularly worry-some blend of incorrect, useless ingredients. Indeed, it wasn’t long after that the dieting world shunned the Atkins Diet - pushing it aside to the record books in favor of new, more modern systems.
The university town of Reading will be expecting a lot of guests again on the bank holiday weekend of August 2009.
Reading Festival – one of the main rock/alternative festivals - is expected to bring a lot of visitors in, but this year there is a small issue regarding the tickets. There will be NONE sold at the festival. Reading Festival Tickets were hardest to obtain from non third party sellers in 2006, when they were sold out in less than three hours, and all the presale tickets from the first batch are sold out for Reading Festival 2009 .
This year’s headliners are rumored to include the famous band Foo Fighters. This rumor is quite controversial and it’s spread every year. They are rumored to play on the festival almost every year for a few years, and because of the rumor, the band “The FF’ers” were bottled off, because people thought that they were the Foo Fighters. The attendants are very fond of the bottling off, so you’ll probably see some action this year too. The second batch of Reading Festival 2009 tickets will be up for sale on March 30, 7.00PM.
I just finished writing an article on what to do before you begin a new dieting program, so it makes sense to follow that up on the other end. This article will explain the steps I take on the completion of any diet that I take part in. Why do you have to give this any consideration? Can’t you just start eating normally again? Well, it all depends really. If, for example, you have just completed a detox diet, the worst thing you could possibly do would be to revert back to the exact heavy foods you were ingesting before. This is because the whole point in detox diets is to rid your system of unwanted toxins and waste - and hence this leaves it somewhat vulnerable after the intense diet.
Alternatively, if your diet consisted only of cutting down the amount of food you eat, you can surely get away with returning to your normal food level - with moderation of course. However, instead of doing this, why not try to ease out of the diet, by gradually increasing your meal size until it gets back to normal.

How many times have you wanted to go to a concert but found out that you were too broke to afford good concert tickets? For example, you may want to purchase U2 concert tickets but simply cannot cough up the funds needed to buy good tickets. If this is the case, here are some tips on how to quickly get some money in order to buy your tickets.
The first way is to dig around your home and see if you have got unwanted junk to sell. Like they say, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. You may not want your collection of assorted comic books but collectors will snap them up in a jiffy. That’s why you may need to quickly register yourself at eBay and get yourself a seller’s account. If you do not want to sell online, you can always do so at a self-hosted garage sale. Ask your parents for help.
Next you can do odd jobs or advertise yourself as a freelancer online. If you search around, there are plenty of forums or websites that allow you to place ads asking for simple jobs. These jobs, if done in a speedy manner, can get you enough money to buy your precious tickets.
Finally after you have enough dollar bills sitting warmly in your pocket you may want to check out Seatwave UK, a user friendly site that lets people buy and sell tickets needed to attend concerts and sports events.
Selling and buying festival tickets on Seatwave was developed with the intention of making it easier for fans to obtain tickets in the least possible time. Reading festival tickets can be obtained from seat wave without any trouble and difficulty. In order to make sure that you do not miss out even a single moment of this exciting and remarkable festival, you must buy your tickets quite early before the festival starts. It is the most foremost and an extraordinary music show equally popular throughout the world. Some of the great bands and musicians that have shown up at this festival and rocked the audiences with their performances include Metallica, The Killers, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and several others. This festival has undergone many successful changes since its evolution. The festival promises highly recognised artists playing out live in front of you in this huge festival which is simply not one to be missed at any cost. Just like the Leeds Festival Tickets on Seatwave, the tickets for this festival are also sold out very quickly every year.
There is no better time to enjoy yourself than now. With the world on the brink of financial ruin, it may come as a surprise to some to learn that the Reading Festival 2009 is the most popular so far, with tickets in the first pre-sale selling out in a record 48 hours. However, for industry insiders, this will just be another standard year, as they are fully aware that music events such as this do not suffer in the least from the threat of recession. It may actually be beneficial to the event! The main ticketing agent this year - Seat Wave, has said that demand was so strong in the first sale, they are planning another round of ticket sales sometime in Spring this year.
No doubt this will be just as popular as it’s predecessor, as people look for any way possible to lift themselves above the doom and gloom which the media is portraying. After all, if you are able to afford the cost of a Reading Festival ticket, you are probably not one of those people considering what direction their life may be going in financially. My advice - enjoy the 3 day event as much as you possibly can!
Most dieting programmes out there on the market recommend specific things that you should do in the days before you begin the diet, in order to prepare your body for what is to come. Indeed, whilst this is a good idea, you certainly don’t need to go to extreme lengths to purge or cleanse your system in advance. After all, that is the exact reason you are doing the diet in the first place, right? So, if your dieting package doesn’t offer any advice, what are the types of things you should consider doing? Let me offer a few of my own selections.
Firstly, be sure to eat all the normal meals in the days leading up to the diet. Attempting to “help out” the dieting programme by starting on an empty system will actually be counterproductive to your overall progress on the course. Instead, eat light meals 3 or 4 times per day. Additionally, make sure you visit the toilet regularly. Whilst dieting will help take all the nasty toxins out of your body, you need to remove what is currently in there first. Try going at least 3 times a day, and you will no doubt feel better for it.
As a health professional, I am often confronted by people who have absolutely no knowledge on the topic of dieting. These people are generally a little bit larger than they ought to be, and are concerned about their future health and well-being. My advice to them is the same I give to anyone who considers themselves to be overweight. That is - go for it! Being part of a society that enjoys creating and promoting stereotypes, dieting has become somewhat attached to the term “obesity”. Funnily enough, I have a BMI well below the “average” individual - implying that I am a fit and healthy adult male. So when I tell people that I regularly go on a one or two week diet, they tend to look at me with a strange frown.
No, I admit that I do not need to lose weight, but let’s face it - dieting is healthy! As long as you choose the right diet to fit your bodily needs, it doesn’t matter what size you are. Dieting can be beneficial to other parts of the body other than the belly, such as the brain. So my advice would be to jump on a reasonable dieting programme at any time, and enjoy the lasting results.
With so many dieting options available at the moment, and more overweight people than ever before, I guess it’s useful to ask the question - whats the point in dieting? Whilst this is a troublesome attitude to take from the very beginning, I assure you that this is the way a large number of obese people feel about the issue. For some, obesity is a way of life, and dieting is simply not an option. Perhaps they dislike diet foods, or simply don’t want to take part in a dieting program. This is fair enough if they wish to think in that way. But is it damaging our society?
To be honest, not yet. The majority of overweight people I have come across do have good intentions, and most of them have tried dieting at some point. So it must be those few individuals who feel that society should adapt to this new way of life, instead of trying to fix or change it. For that reason, they refuse dieting advice, and simply continue down the dangerous path that is obesity. Certainly, this gives us an insight in to the issue, and the ways in which we need to increase the appeal of dieting programs worldwide.
